Two Missing Children Found Walking Alone in Cancún After 18-Hour Search

Two young children reported missing in Cancún were located by traffic officers walking along Avenida José López Portillo and reunited with their family

Cancún, Quintana Roo — A girl and a boy reported missing in Cancún were found walking alone along Avenida José López Portillo early Thursday morning, roughly 18 hours after they disappeared from their home.

Traffic officers patrolling the avenue near Supermanzana 94 spotted the two children shortly before 5:00 a.m. After checking their details, the officers confirmed they were the siblings who had been reported missing the previous day.

The children were last seen Wednesday morning in the El Pedregal neighborhood, near Calle Manantial, prompting relatives to call the 911 emergency line. The report mobilized Municipal Police officers and members of GEAVIG, the specialized unit that handles family and gender violence cases.

Family members, friends and neighbors joined the search, combing green spaces, dirt roads and footpaths across the neighborhood as the hours passed without word of the children.

Paramedics evaluated the pair at the scene and confirmed they had no injuries. GEAVIG personnel then took them into custody and transferred them to the State Prosecutor’s Office to complete the required procedures before turning them over to their family.

It remains unclear why the children left their home or how they traveled to the spot where they were found, roughly six kilometers (about 3.7 miles) away. Investigators are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
