Tulum, Quintana Roo — Emergency crews rescued two men who spent hours lost in the jungle near Tulum after they became disoriented while exploring the area on Sunday.
Authorities received a distress call at 2:23 p.m. reporting the men missing. The pair had entered the jungle through an ejido, or communal land area, but couldn’t find their way out. They were stranded for approximately four hours without water and with nearly depleted cell phone batteries.
Civil protection and public security personnel immediately launched a search operation, organizing teams to comb different trails and sections of the dense vegetation.
After covering several kilometers, rescuers located both men conscious and stable but showing signs of fatigue and dehydration. They received immediate medical attention and were transported to a safe location where they reunited with family members.
The operation concluded without incident around 4:27 p.m. Authorities urged the public to take precautions when entering jungle areas, including informing others of their planned route and carrying necessary supplies.
The rescue highlights ongoing search operations in the Yucatan Peninsula region. In a separate recent incident in Tekax, emergency teams located a couple who got lost in the woods. Both showed moderate dehydration but were returned safely home after a coordinated search involving police, firefighters, and paramedics.
Another case involved 13 female tourists from Nuevo León who became lost in the Abalá wilderness area. One tourist managed to call emergency services via cell phone, enabling a swift rescue operation.
