Sheinbaum Announces Mexico Canta Finalists: Tiffany Calaoiz, Joshua Soto, and Rosalba Valdez

Mexico City — President Claudia Sheinbaum announced the three finalists of the binational singing competition Mexico Canta: Tiffany Calaoiz, Joshua Soto, and Rosalba Valdez.

During her morning press conference, Sheinbaum said the contest is designed to strengthen ties between young Mexicans living in Mexico and the United States, promote musical narratives centered on love, heartbreak, and pride in Mexico rather than violence or addiction, and boost the country’s music production.

She noted that many Mexican groups have emerged in the United States, citing Los Tigres del Norte. “They were formed there and are groups that have gone to play at the White House with different presidents,” she said. “Through this contest and other initiatives, we seek to maintain that cultural family bond because it is very important. Migration is difficult.”

Sheinbaum also congratulated Kenia Lechuga for winning gold at the Rowing Championship in Amsterdam, as well as twins Mía and Lía Cueva, who took gold in the three-meter synchronized springboard at the World Junior Diving Championship in Rijeka, Croatia.

The president added that many Mexican children and young people have been winning prizes in international mathematics and robotics competitions. She said the federal government is compiling these achievements and intends to invite the honorees to the National Palace after her upcoming government report.
