Two 13-Year-Old Girls Found Dead in Separate Cancún Homes

Cancún, Quintana Roo — Two 13-year-old girls were found dead Wednesday at their respective homes in different parts of Cancún, prompting a response from emergency crews and authorities.

The first case was reported at about 6:30 a.m. in Supermanzana 320, where the girl’s parents went into her room after noticing she was not getting ready for school. Relatives took her to a medical facility, where staff confirmed she had no vital signs.

Municipal police officers, personnel from the Specialized Group for the Attention of Family and Gender Violence (Geavig) and State Prosecutor’s Office agents arrived at the scene to carry out the corresponding inquiries.

The second case occurred at about 4:20 p.m. at a home in Región 219, where a parent found his daughter dead after she had returned from school. Emergency services were called to the address through the 911 line and confirmed the death. The girl’s mother suffered a nervous breakdown and received medical care.

Paramedics indicated asphyxia as an apparent preliminary cause of death in both cases. The State Prosecutor’s Office will determine the circumstances and causes through its investigations.

Geavig specialists stressed the importance of listening to minors and paying attention to changes in behavior, isolation or persistent sadness.
