Tourists Brawl at Coco Bongo in Cancun After Drinking, Two Detained

Police officers at the scene of a brawl at Coco Bongo nightclub in Cancun

Cancun, Quintana Roo — A brawl broke out inside the Coco Bongo nightclub early Sunday, as tourists exchanged blows after consuming alcohol, according to authorities.

The altercation began when an argument escalated into physical violence. Witnesses reported that a man wearing a pink shirt repeatedly claimed to have “political power” and warned others that they did not know who they were dealing with.

During the fight, several women were punched and kicked. The man in the pink shirt and another individual identified as his son allegedly punched one of the female victims.

Security personnel at the venue intervened according to protocol, evicting those involved in an attempt to contain the situation.

Municipal Transit officers arrived as first responders and assisted the affected women. The officers were also reportedly assaulted and threatened by the suspects, who continued to warn of supposed political influence.

Additional transit units arrived to reinforce the response, but only one tourist police unit was available, which authorities said was insufficient to detain all participants.

Two men were arrested at the scene. During the arrest, they continued to threaten the officers, hinting at possible job repercussions for the detention.

Authorities have opened an investigation to determine further responsibilities.
