Chetumal, Quintana Roo — Three women were injured early Sunday morning when the car they were traveling in struck a streetlight pole and overturned in the 17 de Octubre neighborhood, authorities said.
The accident occurred around 6:30 a.m. on Avenida Chetumal. According to initial reports, the driver of a silver Chevrolet with Quintana Roo plates was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.
While traveling between Insurgentes and Tecnológico de Veracruz streets, near the Marine Infantry Battalion base, the driver lost control, mounted the sidewalk, hit a light pole, and flipped the vehicle onto its roof.
Marine Infantry personnel stationed nearby rushed out to help the occupants. After confirming three people were injured, they requested an ambulance from the Mexican Navy.
Paramedics arrived and treated the three women before transporting them to a hospital for evaluation and treatment.
State Traffic Police officers also responded, conducted the necessary investigations, and ordered the vehicle towed to an impound lot. The case was turned over to the State Prosecutor’s Office, where a prosecutor opened an investigation for property damage and injuries against the responsible party.
During the investigation, Avenida Chetumal was closed to traffic between Insurgentes and Tecnológico de Veracruz streets to prevent further accidents.
