Fire damage at a tenement in Tulum after a Molotov cocktail attack

Tulum, Quintana Roo — Authorities have arrested a man suspected of throwing Molotov cocktails into a tenement in Tulum, an attack that left three people injured and caused significant property damage, the state prosecutor’s office confirmed Monday.

State Attorney General Raciel López Salazar announced the arrest of Santos Rafael N. during a public security briefing. The suspect faces charges of criminal damage and causing injuries to three victims.

The attack took place at a tenement on Alfa Sur Street near Mercurio Street. The fire ignited a motorcycle and injured a woman and a minor, both of whom received medical treatment.

The incident sparked alarm among local residents due to the intensity of the flames and the risk of the fire spreading to other rooms. Neighbors and emergency responders worked to control the blaze while tending to the victims.

According to the prosecutor’s office, the victims later filed a formal complaint, which allowed investigators to open a case file and carry out the procedures that led to the suspect’s capture.

Authorities have not released further details about the legal proceedings or a possible motive for the attack, but said the investigation remains ongoing.
