Cancún, Quintana Roo — A Siberian Husky was rescued in critical health conditions on Thursday following a joint operation by state and municipal authorities in Cancún’s Region 222. The intervention came in response to citizen reports alleging animal abuse at a residence located on Block 3, at the intersection of Filomeno Mata and Juan Escutia streets.
Authorities Intervene After Reports of Severe Neglect
Personnel from the Directorate of Animal Welfare and agents from the Quintana Roo Attorney General’s Office conducted the operation after receiving multiple complaints about the visibly deteriorating condition of the dog. Neighbors reported that the Husky had been deprived of adequate food, veterinary care, and proper living conditions for over six months.
During the rescue, the individual accused of neglect was present and reportedly engaged in verbal confrontations with women who had exposed the situation on social media, particularly Facebook. Authorities emphasized that animal abuse is a criminal offense in Quintana Roo, punishable by fines and imprisonment under the state’s current Penal Code.
The rescued Husky is now receiving urgent medical attention. Officials reiterated the importance of reporting suspected cases of animal cruelty to prevent further suffering.
