Governor Mara Lezama recently announced a strategic alliance between the Real Madrid Foundation and the Piñero Group, resulting in the establishment of a soccer school in Tulum, Quintana Roo. The governor welcomed the Real Madrid Foundation to Tulum, emphasizing the transformative power of sport in strengthening social cohesion.
The project aims to provide opportunities for the youth of Quintana Roo to realize their dreams, promoting values such as teamwork, respect, and social inclusion. This initiative aligns with the principles of the New Agreement for the Welfare and Development of Quintana Roo.
The announcement was attended by prominent figures such as Encarna Piñero, CEO of Grupo Piñero, Álvaro Moya, General Director of Grupo Piñero Mexico, and Álvaro Arbeloa, a former player and ambassador of the Real Madrid Foundation. Also present were the Secretary of Tourism, Bernardo Cueto Riestra, and the director of the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council (CPTQ), Andrés Martínez.
The alliance will result in the creation of a soccer school at the German International School in Tulum Country Club. The governor stated that the alliance will offer scholarships to vulnerable youth from various communities in the state. Additionally, Grupo Piñero is working on launching the first female soccer league to promote equal opportunities.
Álvaro Arbeloa, the former club player and ambassador of the Real Madrid Foundation, described the project as a transformative tool for the youth of Quintana Roo communities. He revealed that the program currently has 105 participants in Tulum, 15% of whom are women. The goal is to have 150 registered participants by the end of this season. Three teams from the program will represent Tulum at the Real Madrid Foundation's World Challenge 2025 in April, providing a unique learning and camaraderie experience.
The agreement has already awarded full scholarships to 10% of the children in the program. The aim is to increase this to between 20% and 30% in the 2025-2026 season. The program is set to serve as a benchmark for other states in Mexico and Latin America, demonstrating the power of sports in strengthening social cohesion.
