Cancún, Q. Roo — Sailors from Quintana Roo dominated the waters of the Yucatán Yacht Club, turning the 2025 Yucatán Cup into a veritable Caribbean celebration of nautical sports. After four intense days of competition, teams from Puerto Aventuras, Bacalar, and Puerto Cancún flew the Quintana Roo flag high on the podium, demonstrating that the state's sailing scene is experiencing a moment of excellence and international projection.

The Caribbean sailors completely took over the Yucatecan waters in this windsurfing qualifying event, having obtained eleven gold medals, divided among athletes from Puerto Aventuras, Cancún, and Bacalar across the various categories and modalities in both male and female divisions.

This triumph is the result of the joint effort between the sailing clubs and the Quintana Roo Sailors Association, which continues to promote the development of young talents for upcoming international representations and the 2026 CONADE National Olympiad. The next challenge will be the second stage of the state circuit, from November 7 to 9 at Marina Puerto Cancún, where the state qualifier will be defined.

A Powerhouse Performance from Puerto Aventuras

Puerto Aventuras solidified itself as a true powerhouse, achieving multiple victories across various categories. In Advanced Optimist, Marina Tovar was the grand champion after ten races full of strategy and composure, placing her club's name at the top.

In the female Optimist "B" category, there was absolute dominance with Eloísa Padilla in first place, followed by her teammate Mikaela Acuña, while Ángela Araujo of Coporito completed the podium.

In Optimist "C", Juan Tovar took possession of second place with a standout performance, while in the same female category, Lorena Caraza took the gold, accompanied on the podium by Francesca Toma in third, both also from Puerto Aventuras.

In the ILCA 4 class, Yago Daniel Carre and Emiliano Zárate obtained second and third place respectively, showing consistency and discipline. For her part, Mía Acuña, also of Puerto Aventuras, authoritatively took first place in the female ILCA 4 division.

The club's power continued in the Big Techno modality, where Anthony Defauw was crowned champion after eight races, followed by his teammate Sebastián Lawrence in second place. In the female division, Sarita Ambriz shone brightly by winning the category, while Lucía Caraza closed with the third position, completing another golden podium for the club.

The dominance did not stop there, as in the Windsurfer LT Cate category, the three podium places also went to Puerto Aventuras: Alfonso Ambriz in first place, Aldo Ancona second, and Miguel Ángel Pani third. Undoubtedly, a historic result that reaffirms Puerto Aventuras as a national benchmark for youth sailing.

Bacalar and Puerto Cancún Secure Key Victories

From the magical southern waters, Bacalar also contributed triumphs of great value. In Optimist "B", Otis Cardow was the great victor, dominating the waters and leaving behind the locals Jorge and Esteban Muñoz of the Yucatán Yacht Club.

Meanwhile, in Optimist "C", Emiliano Galassini once again placed Bacalar's name at the top, showing a perfect combination of technique and composure. Two victories that confirm the solidity of the formative work being done at this nautical hub in the south of Quintana Roo.

The Puerto Cancún team had standout performances in the senior categories. In the female ILCA 6, Sabrina Hernández took the victory with an impeccable performance, surpassing Sofía Baeza and Sofía Molina, both representatives of Yucatán. In the male division, André Luisa and José Canasi, also from Puerto Cancún, occupied the second and third positions respectively, only behind the Yucatecan Álvaro Ramírez.

Furthermore, in ILCA 7, Juan Santana of Puerto Cancún asserted his authority to take the first overall place, consolidating an excellent harvest for the Cancún marina.

It is important to note that the Yucatán Cup is an event endorsed by the Mexican Sailing Federation, reaffirming its importance within the national calendar and its role in the development of Mexican nautical sports.
