Quintana Roo, Mexico — Quintana Roo has recorded its first heat-related death of 2026, marking the first such fatality nationwide this year, according to health officials. The state has reported four cases linked to extreme temperatures, including two heat strokes, one dehydration case, and one burn injury.

The death occurred despite the official start of the extreme temperature season not beginning until April, highlighting an early onset of heat-related health impacts. Temperatures in Quintana Roo have ranged between 30 and 35 degrees Celsius (86-95°F) recently.

Nationally, 42 people across 11 states have been affected by high temperatures so far this year. Oaxaca leads with 10 cases, followed by Morelos with 9 and Michoacán with 7.

Health authorities are monitoring the situation as the region experiences warmer-than-usual conditions ahead of the typical peak heat season.
