Cancún, Quintana Roo — With one month until the 2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off, Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa announced that the state is ready to welcome thousands of domestic and international visitors to the Mexican Caribbean for soccer’s biggest event.

Lezama said Quintana Roo has spent more than a year planning and strengthening infrastructure, security, mobility, hospitality, and tourism services to provide a top-tier experience for fans.

She confirmed that Quintana Roo will serve as the official base camp for Uruguay’s national team, a two-time World Cup champion. The team will train in the state, bringing international stars such as Real Madrid’s Federico Valverde and Barcelona’s Ronald Araújo.

Lezama said the designation puts Cancún and the Mexican Caribbean “in the eyes of the world” as the vacation capital.

“We have worked intensively at major international fairs like FITUR, promoting Quintana Roo alongside travel agencies, tour operators, and airlines to build complete packages for those coming to enjoy this great soccer festival,” she said.

The governor highlighted the strategic importance of Cancún International Airport, which offers connections to all 16 host cities in Mexico, the United States, and Canada, making it a key entry point for fans.

On immigration and tourist services, Lezama said Terminals 3 and 4 now have new automated filters for travelers from 35 countries with electronic passports, speeding up entry and reducing wait times.

She added that authorities at all three levels of government are coordinating to ensure security, mobility, and efficient service throughout the event, reiterating that Quintana Roo is prepared to welcome the world and make history during the 2026 World Cup.
