Cancún, Quintana Roo — Air traffic between Mexico City and Cancún is set to rise by as much as 25% starting in October, according to the Quintana Roo Tourism Department (Sedetur), as the state works to restore flight capacity ahead of the year-end holiday season.
State Tourism Secretary Bernardo Cueto Riestra said the Quintana Roo government is working jointly with federal authorities and airlines on a strategy to bring back frequencies and routes that have been reduced in recent months.
Volaris has already announced a 25% increase in frequencies between Mexico City International Airport and Cancún beginning in October, Cueto Riestra said, which will recover part of the seats that are currently out of service.
The secretary said the measures are aimed at creating favorable conditions for the upcoming vacation season and strengthening air connectivity to one of Mexico’s leading tourist destinations.
The state is also pursuing international connections. During a working visit to Italy, Sedetur officials held meetings with representatives of the airline Neos to advance new routes from Milan and Rome to the Mexican Caribbean.
Those routes form part of the Quintana Roo government’s effort to revive air connectivity ahead of the winter season and expand options for European visitors arriving in the state.
