Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The legal process to transfer the access road to Punta Esmeralda beach to the municipality of Playa del Carmen has been completed, according to Municipal Trustee José Agustín Aguilar Méndez.
The transfer comes after a donation by the Grand Coral development group, which had failed to finalize the handover of required donation areas for nearly 20 years.
In October 2025, the City Council approved the donation of four lots by Proyectos y Desarrollos Hispanomexicanos, the company behind the Grand Coral development, including the access road. However, the property deeds certified by a notary public were still pending.
Aguilar Méndez confirmed that the process has now concluded, allowing the municipality to proceed with rehabilitation plans.
The project to renovate the access and the beach area was put out for national bidding and is budgeted at 23 million pesos. Previously, no investment could be made because the municipality did not hold the property titles.
