Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Officials in Playa del Carmen are establishing a patronato to secure private and voluntary funds for renovating Quinta Avenida, the city’s main thoroughfare, aiming to enhance its sustainability and appearance.
Javier Regalado Hendricks, treasurer of the Playa del Carmen government, said they continue to develop this project, proposed last year, to make Quinta Avenida more sustainable. “We are working on a patronato… so that the area around Quinta Avenida can have maintenance contributions,” Regalado Hendricks stated. “There is a lot of traffic, people litter, and obviously we want to constantly beautify this attraction of Playa del Carmen.”
Last year, authorities announced the creation of a collegiate body to obtain economic resources, allowing Quinta Avenida to have its own funds for care and beautification goals. “That’s why we’re working on this patronato, to give it a legal framework and ensure that any resources obtained are totally transparent, and that patronato members can decide what to preserve or improve on Quinta,” the official mentioned.
Regarding funding acquisition, Regalado Hendricks noted that they plan to obtain resources from the private sector voluntarily. “Those who want to contribute to the patronato, some donate, there are many organizations in many places with this type of patronato for those who want to contribute, besides local efforts, and we have to see if the municipality can help get the patronato started,” he added.
The official previewed that details on an initiative involving the use of Quinta Avenida spaces for advertising purposes will be announced later.
