Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The municipal government launched a series of citizen dialogues over the weekend to update Playa del Carmen’s Municipal Development Plan (PMD) for 2024-2027, allowing residents to contribute proposals for the city’s future.
The first forum took place at the Puerto Aventuras municipal dome, where Syndic José Agustín Aguilar Méndez opened the event. He noted that Mayor Estefanía Mercado began her first day of work in Puerto Aventuras and that the dialogue series also started there.
“The goal is to listen to the needs and proposals of the citizens,” Aguilar said. He emphasized that the plan is built on four pillars: Shared Prosperity, Inclusive Government, Recovery of Peace, and Urban Transformation. “Every idea counts to build a stronger, fairer community with more opportunities,” he added.
Rolando Méndez Navarro, Secretary of Planning and Evaluation, explained that the exercise aims to update the PMD as required by state law, which mandates a mid-administration review to align with national and state plans. He noted that representatives from all municipal departments are participating in 17 sectoral working groups alongside citizens. Each proposal will receive a tracking number to ensure urgent needs are incorporated into government actions.
Puerto Aventuras Mayor Gilberto Gómez Martínez thanked residents for their participation and proposals to strengthen the plan.
The dialogues seek to gather opinions, suggestions, and concerns, identify key challenges and opportunities, and integrate collective vision into the objectives, strategies, and projects for the current administration.
Attendees included Public Security Secretary Carlos Montesinos, DIF Honorary President Eduardo Asencio, Treasurer Guillermo Brahms, Councilwoman Matilde Carrillo, and other officials and representatives from Puerto Aventuras.
After the opening remarks, thematic tables were set up where residents presented proposals on priority areas such as social development, infrastructure, public services, security, environment, and economic growth.
The citizen dialogues will continue at 6 p.m. at various locations: June 24 in La Guadalupana neighborhood, June 30 in Luis Donaldo Colosio, July 7 in Ejido, and concluding July 9 in Centro neighborhood.
