Playa del Carmen, Mexico — The Centro de Atención Integral de Playa del Carmen will lay the foundation stone for its new school building in 2026, aiming to serve a greater number of children with disabilities and offer additional activities. This follows a donation of 423,479.19 pesos from the Oxxo convenience store chain.
Edith Magaña Mendoza, founder and general director of this specialized center, stated that after receiving the land donation for the school’s construction, they will now begin building in phases, starting specifically with the kitchen and dining area.
She highlighted that they currently serve 32 children, and with the new facilities, the projection is to serve up to 270 daily.
Magaña observed that although there is no census of children with disabilities, there is significant growth in the city and a lack of adequate places for their care and learning.
It is worth mentioning that the Centro de Atención Integral was founded 18 years ago, stemming from Edith Magaña’s experience of having a daughter with different abilities.
What they seek, she affirmed, is to have a space where children can develop according to their abilities.
The projected center will include, in addition to classrooms, a physical therapy room, a computer lab, and a swimming pool for swimming lessons. In the future, they even plan to offer equine therapy, as they have a half-hectare plot of land.
