A pitbull dog attacked a girl and her father in the “El Bali” residential area of Playa del Carmen. The family decided not to wait and transported themselves to a private hospital to be treated by doctors. Both were placed under medical observation to rule out complications.
According to initial reports, the father and his daughter were spending time pleasantly as on any other day in the garden of their house in the residential area located in the Ejidal neighborhood.
While the girl was playing, in a matter of seconds those moments of joy turned into fear and anxiety when a pitbull dog escaped from its owner.
Seeing the aggression, the girl’s father rushed to protect her, but also ended up injured by the animal’s bites.
The girl suffered injuries to an arm and a leg, while the father sustained a wound on his leg from being attacked by the animal.
According to reports, the family did not immediately report the incident to municipal authorities, as the girl’s father sought to speak directly with the dog’s owner to reach an agreement about what happened.
For their part, neighbors in the subdivision reported that they managed to intervene in the incident to control the dog and prevent it from continuing to attack. Other residents sought to support the victims. It is currently unknown whether municipal authorities attended the scene to verify the situation and possibly secure the dog.
According to information from Civil Protection, paramedics from the Mexican Red Cross were dispatched to the location to assess and assist the victims. It is also unknown whether the girl’s father will file a complaint or not.
