Man Ordered to Stand Trial for Child Pornography in Cancún

Cancún, Quintana Roo — A man identified as Marco Antonio N. has been ordered to stand trial on charges of human trafficking in the form of child pornography, the Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office announced.

Prosecutors from the agency’s Specialized Unit for Crimes of Human Trafficking and Exploitation of Children and Adolescents secured the court ruling against the suspect.

Investigative police officers, working with the National Guard and municipal police, arrested Marco Antonio N. under an arrest warrant. According to authorities, he allegedly possessed and viewed images and videos of child sexual abuse stored on electronic devices and cloud accounts.

The investigation also involved the General Directorate of Cyber Investigation of the federal Secretariat of Security and Civil Protection, as well as the U.S. National Security Investigations attaché in Mexico.

After the arrest, officers executed a search warrant at a property on José López Portillo Avenue in the Privadas del Sol residential development, located in the city’s Supermanzana 61 area. Officials seized ammunition of various calibers, cell phones, USB drives, modems, SIM cards, a laptop and a tablet.

Investigators said Marco Antonio N. is also believed to have photographed and recorded minors without their consent in shopping malls and other public spaces.

A judge found sufficient evidence to proceed with the case and ordered preventive detention for up to two years, or for the duration of the proceedings.
