Pink Heel Breakfast Unites Isla Mujeres Women in Support of Breast Cancer Patients

Women gathered at the traditional Pink Heel Breakfast in Isla Mujeres to show solidarity with breast cancer patients

Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — The Isla Mujeres municipal family services agency, known as DIF, hosted its traditional Pink Heel Breakfast on Saturday, bringing together local women to raise support for those currently undergoing breast cancer treatment.

Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde joined the gathering and stressed the value of building support networks that stand with island women throughout their treatment, reminding them that they belong to a community walking beside them.

The breakfast drew women whose participation and generosity advanced the cause, turning the event into a space for companionship, empathy and backing for those facing the disease.

“We are here today to tell our women that they are not alone, that they have us and that together we can accompany one another through difficult moments,” Gómez said. “Every contribution and every person who joins in represents a hug and a show of solidarity for those who are fighting this battle today.”

The mayor said that talking about breast cancer also means talking about prevention and the importance of promoting a culture of self-care and early detection among women.

“Early detection can make a huge difference, which is why we want our women to take care of themselves, to get checked and to make use of the health services we are bringing closer during this Pink Month,” she added.

Gómez also credited the Isla Mujeres DIF for sustaining and promoting initiatives that not only generate support for women in treatment but also strengthen bonds of solidarity and mutual support within the island community.

The Pink Heel Breakfast forms part of the Pink Month activities held throughout October in Isla Mujeres, which focus on prevention, early detection, health care and support for women.
