On Sunday afternoon, January 19, 2025, a tragic accident occurred in Playa del Carmen, leading to the death of a pedestrian.
The incident took place in the Centro neighborhood of Playa del Carmen, where a pedestrian was hit by a truck. Initial reports suggest that the pedestrian slipped off the sidewalk and fell under the wheels of a public transport bus operated by Transportes Unidos del Carmen (Tucsa). The accident happened around 1 pm on 2nd street between 25th and 30th avenues.
Following the accident, passengers on the Tucsa bus immediately sought medical assistance.
The pedestrian was reportedly walking on an uneven sidewalk when they stumbled and fell onto the road, just as the bus was passing. Although the bus was not moving at high speed, the driver was unable to stop in time, resulting in the pedestrian's fatal injury.
Paramedics arrived on the scene, but unfortunately, they were unable to save the pedestrian's life due to the severe head trauma caused by the impact.
The area was subsequently cordoned off, and forensic investigators from the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) arrived to collect evidence. The bus was secured with the help of a crane. The investigation into this tragic accident in Playa del Carmen is ongoing.
