Chetumal, Quintana Roo — More than 5,000 children and their families gathered at the DIF soccer field in Chetumal for a Children’s Day festival led by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa.

Joined by Verónica Lezama Espinosa, honorary president of the state DIF system, and Othón P. Blanco Mayor Yensunni Martínez Hernández, the governor spent the day interacting with children and their families in a festive atmosphere.

The event featured a wide range of activities, including mechanical rides such as carousels, bounce houses, a traditional “gusanito” train, and bumper cars. Children also enjoyed giveaways, raffles, and refreshments throughout the day.

One highlight was a musical show with costumed characters, during which Governor Lezama joined the children in dancing and singing, creating a close and convivial environment.

“I want you to be very happy, because this event is for you,” Lezama told the children, emphasizing that such celebrations recognize their importance in society.

In her remarks, the governor also highlighted the crucial role of mothers and families in children’s development, acknowledging their daily efforts to ensure their well-being.

Verónica Lezama Espinosa stressed that under this administration, childhood is a priority, and called for preserving spaces that strengthen family bonds and emotional development.

“A happy childhood is key to comprehensive development, based on values like love, security, and protection,” she said. “Be happy, play, laugh, dance, and enjoy this wonderful stage of life.”

The festival was attended by various state and municipal authorities, including DIF Quintana Roo Director General Abril Sabido Alcérreca, DIF Municipal President Idalid Hernández Méndez, and representatives from the Judicial Branch and the local Congress.
