Cancun, Quintana Roo — The Quintana Roo government has launched a new initiative called “PuenteAndo” that will transform the Nichupte Vehicular Bridge into a recreational corridor for pedestrians and cyclists on the last Sunday of every month.
The first edition is scheduled for Sunday, July 26, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. During those five hours, the bridge will be open to bicycles, roller skates, scooters, and other human-powered vehicles, as well as walkers and runners looking to enjoy an evening over the lagoon.
The recreational route will span approximately 8 kilometers (5 miles) round trip, with access from both ends of the bridge. Along the way, four large pavilions will offer sports, entrepreneurship, gastronomy, and leisure activities, including physical and recreational activities, plus sales of food, crafts, and products made in Quintana Roo.
Free bicycle loans will be available for children and adults, along with basic mechanical support for those who bring their own bikes. Live music, a DJ, karaoke, photo spots, and other family-friendly activities are also planned.
During the event, vehicle access to the bridge will be closed, with signage, surveillance, and traffic personnel in place. Recommended alternate routes include Kukulcan and Luis Donaldo Colosio boulevards, as well as Bonampak, Chac Mool, Tulum, and Lopez Portillo avenues. Interested participants can register on the Puenteando Nichupte website to confirm attendance.
The Nichupte Vehicular Bridge opened in May 2026 and was opened to the public a week later by Governor Mara Lezama. Since then, it has served as an alternate route to improve traffic flow to the Hotel Zone and downtown Cancun. It has also hosted other recreational activities, such as the municipal government’s “Paseo Cancunense.”
