Cancún, Quintana Roo — The sixth edition of Vive Mice opened Tuesday in Costa Mujeres, bringing together more than 80 international buyers from the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions industry to close business deals with suppliers across Quintana Roo.
The three-day event, organized by the Mexican Caribbean chapter of Meeting Professionals International (MPI), is expected to host more than 1,100 business meetings and generate an economic impact of more than $7 million, according to organizers.
State tourism secretary Bernardo Cueto attended the opening and said Quintana Roo offers a complete platform for the meetings industry, with more than 170,000 square meters of event space, hotel capacity, international connectivity, specialized suppliers and experiences that help attract visitors and extend their stays.
Guadalupe Avila, president of MPI’s Mexican Caribbean chapter, said the event is itinerant and promotes Quintana Roo by microdestination. Last year’s edition was held in Riviera Maya, and the next one will take place in Cancún’s hotel zone.
This year’s event at Costa Mujeres includes 80 buyers from Mexico, the United States, Europe and Latin America, who will explore the range of venues, hotels and services available for the sector, Avila said. She noted that incentives are the segment with the strongest growth.
“People not only want to meet,” Avila said. “They want the meeting to include an experience and a purpose for their guests, so attendees feel rewarded.” She said the Mexican Caribbean offers a strong supply chain that includes natural attractions such as cenotes and archaeological sites, as well as highly trained service providers.
The segment contributes more than 30 percent of annual hotel room occupancy at destinations, according to industry specialists. While artificial intelligence offers new tools for partner connectivity, organizers said face-to-face encounters remain the most enriching part of the business and will continue to grow.
Over its first five editions, Vive Mice has generated more than 8,600 business meetings, involved 35 host hotels, attracted more than 150 sponsors and organized more than 15 familiarization trips, positioning the Mexican Caribbean as a strong contender in the meetings industry.
