Nichupté Bridge Opens to Traffic in Cancún, First Vehicles Cross at Dawn

First vehicles cross the newly opened Nichupté Bridge in Cancún at sunrise

Cancún, Quintana Roo — The Nichupté Bridge officially opened to vehicular traffic at dawn on Wednesday, with the first cars, motorcycles, bicycles, and tourist vans crossing the scenic 11-kilometer span.

The bridge, which connects the city to the Hotel Zone, will operate daily from 4:30 a.m. to midnight. It features reversible lanes: two lanes will run from the Kabah Avenue and Colosio Boulevard access points toward Kilometer 13.5 in the Hotel Zone during the morning, then switch direction in the afternoon to accommodate traffic returning from the Hotel Zone via Kukulcán Boulevard.

The structure is integrated into the C5 security system, with video cameras and surveillance equipment monitoring the bridge at all times to ensure safety and provide immediate emergency response.

Drivers expressed optimism about the time savings. “The bridge is beautiful and you cross it very quickly,” said one motorist. Cyclist Adrián added, “Riding a bike here is a pleasure. The view is spectacular, and we hope drivers and cyclists will respect each other’s limited space.”

The first vehicles reached Kukulcán Boulevard and dispersed toward their destinations in the Hotel Zone.
