Mérida, Yucatán — A search collective in Yucatán has released a music video dedicated to a girl who disappeared in Quintana Roo nearly four years ago, hoping to reignite public pressure for answers in the case.
The Colectivo Familias Buscadoras de Yucatán (Yucatán Families of the Missing Collective) is urging media outlets and the public to share the video, which focuses on the case of Fernanda Cayetana Canul Blanco. The girl vanished from the mainland area of Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo, in July 2022.
The artistic initiative aims to strengthen community ties across the Yucatán Peninsula and keep alive the demand for justice from her mother, Deysi Blanco, who founded the group “Buscando a Fernanda Cayetana” (Searching for Fernanda Cayetana).
According to the collective, music has a unique power to raise awareness and mobilize consciences. They are asking radio stations, digital platforms, and cultural venues to actively program the song, turning media outlets into “beacons of commitment to human rights.”
“Broadcasting this work is not only an act of profound humanity and support for a mother in resistance, but it also turns your station into a beacon of solidarity and commitment to human rights in our region,” the collective said in a statement.
