Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A woman has filed a complaint against the General Hospital here, alleging that medical staff transferred her critically ill son to another facility without her authorization.
Rosa María Núñez García said her son, Felipe de Jesús, was admitted to the hospital days ago with septic shock and diabetic coma. After several days of treatment, she said, hospital staff decided to move him to an IMSS (Mexican Social Security Institute) hospital.
Núñez García told local media that the transfer took place without any prior notice, and questioned how such a decision could be made while her son was unconscious and in critical condition.
The young man is now in intensive care at the IMSS hospital, where his condition remains serious. His mother said he has upper gastrointestinal bleeding and requires frequent blood transfusions.
She demanded that the General Hospital’s administration explain the circumstances and reasons behind the transfer. She also appealed to the public for platelet donors, given her son’s delicate state.
The General Hospital has accumulated multiple public complaints and legal claims over the years, including alleged medical negligence, mistreatment by staff, shortages of supplies, and critical delays in patient care. Among the most common grievances are waits of more than 36 hours for urgent surgeries, postoperative mismanagement, and omissions in treatment.
