Cancun, Quintana Roo — Authorities in Cancun located a 12-year-old boy Saturday afternoon in a hotel room, four days after he was reported missing.

The boy was found in a room at a hotel on Avenida Tulum in the Supermanzana 20 neighborhood. He had apparently entered the hotel with an adult.

Relatives received an anonymous call providing information about the boy’s whereabouts and alerted authorities. Officers from the Specialized Group for Attention to Family and Gender Violence (GEAVIG) responded to the hotel and confirmed the child’s presence.

The boy was taken into protective custody and transferred to the appropriate authorities for care and follow-up.

Preliminary investigations indicate the boy entered the Hotel Handall several days ago with his father. When found, he was alone, and the father’s whereabouts remain unknown.

Initial reports suggest the boy may have been unable to leave the hotel due to an unpaid bill. This is part of the ongoing investigation by the State Prosecutor’s Office.

Authorities are also reviewing whether hotel staff failed to report a child staying without a responsible adult for several days.

Officials have not disclosed whether the boy had any medical conditions or physical injuries at the time of his discovery, nor have they provided details on the circumstances of his disappearance.

The investigation continues to determine how the events unfolded, locate the father, and assign responsibility.
