Chetumal, Quintana Roo — The federal government has cut 1.5 billion pesos ($72 million) from Quintana Roo’s budget since February, Finance Secretary Martha Parroquin Pérez confirmed Tuesday, with municipalities facing an additional 400 million pesos in reductions.
Speaking at a press conference, Parroquin insisted the state’s finances remain healthy but declined to discuss the operational impact of the lost federal funds, abruptly ending the interview when asked about it.
The cuts have prompted some municipalities to seek early disbursements of federal revenue-sharing funds. Playa del Carmen has already submitted such a request, but Parroquin said her office has not yet received any formal petitions from local governments.
“I don’t have that information yet,” she said when asked how many municipalities have requested advances. She added that the state has asked municipalities to submit their requirements to address the federal reductions, but “so far we do not have them.”
