Mayor’s Fumigation Plan Fights Dengue in Playa

Playa del Carmen, Mexico — The municipal president of Playa del Carmen, Estefanía Mercado, personally supervised the initiation of an intensive nebulization strategy in neighborhoods and priority zones of the city from aboard a vector control unit. The objective is to combat the mosquito responsible for transmitting dengue, zika, and chikungunya.

Accompanied by the Municipal Secretary of Health, José Antonio Uribe Trujillo, the Mayor reported that her administration, in coordination with the State and the Vector control team, has deployed fumigation brigades that are working twice a day in different parts of Playa del Carmen.

“We are reinforcing the fumigation efforts in the neighborhoods, and we ask citizens that when they see the units passing by, they open their doors and windows so the chemical can enter and protect their homes,” she stated during the inspection.

The Mayor emphasized that, in addition to the nebulization that eliminates adult mosquitoes, the most important action is the removal of potential mosquito breeding sites, avoiding the accumulation of water in tires, buckets, dishes, and other containers.

Finally, Estefanía Mercado issued a call for shared responsibility: “The government and the community must work together to care for the health of everyone.”
