Tulum, Quintana Roo — Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa and Mexican Air Force Division General Román Carmona Landa inaugurated the Tulum Air Show 2026 on Thursday, a four-day event combining aerial exhibitions, business meetings, and technological innovation at the Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport.
During the ceremony, attended by Group General Disraelí Gómez Herrera, director of the Mexico Aerospace Fair Committee, Lezama highlighted that the event marks a historic moment for the state by integrating, for the first time, demonstrations by the Mexican Air Force, participation from international aerospace companies, and ground activities including a NASCAR race.
Lezama recognized the progress of women in historically limited spaces, noting the participation of Lieutenant Brenda Citlali García, a member of the Águilas Aztecas, as an inspiration for new generations. She also referenced President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo as the first woman to lead the country and command the Armed Forces.
The governor emphasized that Tulum International Airport has exceeded expectations since its opening and positions Quintana Roo as the only Mexican state with four international airports, strengthening its tourism leadership and connectivity in Latin America.
“In this humanist government with a feminist heart, we are very clear that growth must be felt and experienced in people’s daily lives,” Lezama said, adding that such events not only promote tourism but also drive investment, generate jobs, and open new opportunities for young people in technology and high-value sectors.
Gómez Herrera called the event historic, set against the extraordinary backdrop of the Mexican Caribbean. “Tulum opens its skies to an event of this magnitude where military and civil aviation and motorsports converge to offer an exceptional display of operational capability, technological innovation, and discipline,” he said.
He highlighted the support and participation of state enterprises including the Tren Maya, Mexicana de Aviación, and Grupo Mundo Maya, calling them key players in the transformation and connectivity of southeastern Mexico.
After the ceremony, officials toured the pavilion and static exhibition of civilian and military aircraft and hot air balloons.
Lezama was accompanied by Verónica Lezama, honorary president of the DIF Quintana Roo system; Senator Eugenio Segura; and Felipe Carrillo Puerto Mayor Mary Hernández, along with other authorities and guests.
