Cancun, Quintana Roo — Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa inaugurated the third edition of the Cultural Encounter 2026 at the Teatro de la Ciudad, an event bringing together 24 secondary schools and more than 600 students for regional artistic competitions.

The event, which also included Verónica Lezama Espinosa, honorary president of the DIF-Quintana Roo system, aims to strengthen local culture and traditions, officials said.

Fernando Peralta Rivera, an advisor to the governor’s office, noted that the encounter is part of the Civic Cultural Program for the current school year and promotes healthy coexistence among students and families.

The program was revived after a 10-year hiatus under the current administration, Peralta said. It features competitions in declamation, oratory, flag escorts, choral poetry, and performances by regional bands from different parts of the country, as well as a talk on Quintana Roo history and a municipal contest on interpreting the state’s official book.

Students presented regional dances representing Quintana Roo, Oaxaca, Nuevo León, Yucatán, and Veracruz.

Luis Alberto Tun Calderón, undersecretary of education for the northern zone, along with teachers and parents, also attended the event.
