Man Shot in Cancun Walks to Supermarket for Help

Cancun, Quintana Roo — A 40-year-old man was shot Sunday afternoon in the Tres Reyes irregular settlement and managed to walk to a supermarket parking lot to seek help from authorities.

The victim, identified as Abel Fernando, originally from Veracruz, suffered a gunshot wound to the right buttock with an exit wound in the left iliac fossa, according to a preliminary diagnosis by paramedics who responded to the scene.

After being attacked in the Tres Reyes neighborhood, the man walked to the Soriana supermarket located between the Urbi Villas del Rey and Paraiso Maya housing developments. People at the scene noticed his condition and immediately called emergency services.

Civil protection paramedics arrived, provided first aid, and transported him in yellow code to the General Hospital for specialized medical care.

State police officers set up a security perimeter and secured the store’s entrances while medical assistance was provided.

As of the latest official report, no arrests have been made in connection with the attack. Ministerial investigators are conducting inquiries to determine the motive and locate those responsible.
