Cancún, Quintana Roo — A man was shot dead Monday night in a residential area of Cancún, sparking a major security operation that has yet to yield any arrests.
Residents of the Villas Otoch subdivision in Supermanzana 247 reported hearing multiple gunshots on Eucalipto Street around 9 p.m., prompting them to alert authorities.
Municipal police officers responded first, finding the victim lying in the street with gunshot wounds. Red Cross paramedics arrived minutes later but confirmed the man had no vital signs.
Witnesses told investigators the attack appeared targeted. According to their accounts, the victim was walking along the street when two individuals on a motorcycle intercepted him.
“Without exchanging words, the attackers fired multiple times at him and then fled the area,” one resident said. “We couldn’t see which direction they took.”
Security personnel immediately cordoned off the area to preserve evidence while launching search operations in the vicinity. However, they failed to locate the suspects.
Forensic experts from the Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office collected ballistic evidence and other clues to build the investigation file. Prosecutors also arrived to begin official proceedings.
The victim’s body was transported to the medical examiner’s office for official identification. Authorities have not released the man’s name or disclosed possible investigative leads.
The case remains under investigation to determine the motive and identify those responsible.
