According to initial reports, the driver of a vehicle—whose details are still being confirmed—was traveling along the island’s main coastal road when, approaching the entrance to the naval building, they lost control of the steering wheel.
The vehicle veered into the central median, striking a palm tree that was knocked down by the force of the impact.
After the collision, the vehicle ended up completely overturned on the asphalt roadway.
At this time, the number of injured people and the severity of their wounds remain unknown, as emergency personnel continue working at the scene performing rescue operations and medical assessments.
Traffic on Rafael E. Melgar Avenue was partially restricted, prompting officials to recommend that motorists take alternate routes while crews worked to remove the damaged vehicle.
