Man Arrested With Drugs and Ammunition After Fleeing Police in Cancun

Police officers detain a man next to a black vehicle on a Cancun street

Cancun, Quintana Roo — A man was arrested Saturday after attempting to flee from police during routine patrols on Avenida Andrés Quintana Roo, authorities said.

Officers from the Secretariat of Citizen Security, in coordination with the National Guard and federal forces, spotted a man next to a black vehicle handling plastic bags containing a green vegetable-like substance. When the suspect noticed the officers, he got into the vehicle and tried to drive away, but police intercepted him at the intersection of Avenida Andrés Quintana Roo and Calle 133 in the Region 96 neighborhood.

During a preventive search, officers seized several small bags of what appeared to be marijuana, a box of .380 caliber cartridges, a backpack, a cellphone, cash, and the vehicle.

The suspect, identified as Fredi Manuel “N,” was turned over to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Drug Dealing, where he will face charges.
