Judge Grants House Arrest to Former Cancun Taxi Union Leader Accused of Murder

Salomon Mafer, former secretary general of the Andres Quintana Roo taxi union in Cancun

Cancun, Quintana Roo — A judge has granted house arrest to Salomon “Mafer,” the former secretary general of the Andres Quintana Roo Taxi Union in Cancun, who faces criminal proceedings for alleged intellectual participation in a murder.

According to sources, the measure was authorized after the defense proved that the defendant suffers from diabetes and requires specialized medical care. He will now continue his legal process from home under conditions set by the court.

Mafer was arrested in November 2024 in Cancun’s Supermanzana 228 under an arrest warrant linked to the murder of a union collaborator.

According to the investigation, on October 25, 2024, the victim arrived by taxi at his home and was intercepted by two individuals who got out of two vehicles and kidnapped him. After a multi-day search, the body was found on October 30 in a green area beside the Cancun-Merida federal highway.

Along with Mafer, authorities also arrested Oscar Antonio “N,” who was captured while walking through the Parque de la Equidad, located between Avenidas 20 de Noviembre, Chac Mool, and Kabah in Supermanzana 221.

The State Prosecutor’s Office accuses both men of being the intellectual authors of the homicide. The criminal proceedings continue, but Mafer will now serve his pretrial detention at home while his legal status is resolved.
