Bus Driver Flees After Causing Crash on Federal Highway 307 in Quintana Roo

A damaged white pickup truck on the side of a highway after a collision with a bus

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A bus driver fled the scene after rear-ending a pickup truck on Federal Highway 307, leaving one person injured and triggering a secondary multi-vehicle crash, authorities reported.

The incident occurred when a personnel transport bus operated by Lipu, with economic number 11052, struck a white Toyota Hilux pickup truck from behind near the Calica bridge on the Playa del Carmen to Puerto Aventuras stretch. The impact pushed the pickup into a metal guardrail on the right lane, causing significant damage.

Witnesses called emergency services. Private paramedics treated the pickup driver, who suffered injuries from the crash, and transported him to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.

While emergency crews attended to the injured man, the bus driver allegedly abandoned the vehicle and fled. Transit authorities and security personnel began investigating to locate the driver and determine the cause of the crash.

The bus was seized and later removed by a tow truck, along with the damaged pickup, to clear the roadway and prevent further incidents.

A secondary accident occurred in the same area because no police officers were present to manage traffic. A black Volkswagen slowed down upon seeing the first crash, but a gray Dodge failed to stop in time and rear-ended it. A gray Frontier pickup then collided with both vehicles. No injuries were reported in that incident, though the vehicles sustained significant damage.

Traffic was disrupted for several minutes while emergency crews worked and the vehicles were removed. As of the latest reports, authorities have not located the driver who fled.
