Paris — Mexican cyclist Isaac del Toro secured third place overall in the 2026 Tour de France, also claiming the white jersey as the best young rider in his debut appearance.
Del Toro crossed the finish line of the final stage in Paris after a mechanical issue forced him to change bikes 32 kilometers from the end. The incident prevented him from assisting his UAE Team leader Tadej Pogacar in the sprint for the stage win.
Pogacar, who won his fifth Tour de France title, finished second on the stage behind Dutch rider Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin), who took his second career stage victory in a sprint duel on the Champs-Élysées.
The general classification remained unchanged after the stage, as the times were neutralized for the final circuit. Del Toro ended the race 6 minutes and 26 seconds behind Pogacar, with Belgian Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step) finishing second overall, 6 minutes and 26 seconds behind the winner.
Pogacar joins cycling legends Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault, and Miguel Indurain as a five-time Tour winner. The 89-kilometer final stage from Mantes-la-Ville to Paris was the fastest in Tour history, averaging high speeds.
Del Toro, who had already shown promise with strong performances in the mountains, confirmed the high expectations placed on him by finishing on the podium in his debut Tour.
The top 10 also included French riders Paul Seixas (4th), Lenny Martinez (5th), Danish rider Mattias Skjelmose (6th), Spanish rider Juan Ayuso (7th), and Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz (8th), who won the King of the Mountains classification. Defending podium finisher Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) withdrew after a crash in stage 15.
