Emiliano Ramos Hernandez, former deputy, was discharged from the General Hospital and returned to the Municipal Detention Center of Playa del Carmen. Ramos was escorted by police, handcuffed and in a wheelchair, due to his weakened state from a self-imposed hunger strike.
Ramos left the hospital around midday, with medical advice to immediately cease his hunger strike due to the risk it posed to his health and life. His brother, Alejandro Ramos, revealed that Ramos agreed to end his hunger strike at the urging of his mother and daughter, Jimena. Alejandro stated, "They asked him to suspend the hunger strike, not the battle, not the legal fight, but the strike, because it is endangering his life. Alive, he can regain his daughters; dead, he loses everything."
Alejandro further claimed that his brother is being accused of fabricated crimes by the Prosecutor's Office, which he believes is manipulating the Judiciary to prevent Ramos from changing his preventive measure and facing his trial as a free man. He criticized the judges for exceeding their authority by declaring a potential prison sentence of up to two years, or for the duration of the trial.
