Holbox, Quintana Roo — Organizers have announced the second annual Pride march on the island of Holbox, set for May 22-23, with a goal of drawing more than 1,000 participants and positioning the destination as a hub for queer tourism.

The event, organized by the Holbox Pride Council, will feature three days of art, culture, and public health activities, along with social events and a concert by singer Karenka. Additional special guests have yet to be announced.

Organizers said the march aims to raise awareness about respect and understanding of sexual diversity while capitalizing on a surge in LGBTQ+ visitors to the island in 2025.

“The activities were designed to provide a proper way to live in harmony through mutual respect,” said Alejandro Villanueva, one of the event organizers. “Holbox promotes a series of values and respect, but above all acceptance.”

The first Holbox Pride march took place on July 5, 2025, under the slogan “Free as the Sea,” marking a historic milestone for the island. That event began at the Casa Iguana hotel and ended at the town’s acoustic shell.

The initiative grew out of positive social media feedback highlighting the need for workshops and activities addressing discrimination, violence, and equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex individuals, with the goal of fostering inclusion and empowerment.

Organizers invite both locals and visitors to join the celebration, which they say continues to gain relevance each year.
