Grupo Centurión Foils Phone Extortion Attempt, Rescues Two Adults in Cancún
Cancún, Quintana Roo — Officers from Grupo Centurión foiled a telephone extortion attempt after a woman reported receiving threatening calls demanding money for the alleged release of her relatives.
According to authorities, the woman said her aunt and grandfather had left their home in the Supermanzana 50 area to provide podiatry services. Minutes later, a man called her, claiming to be a member of a criminal group and stating he had kidnapped the two relatives, demanding 20,000 pesos to spare them.
The officers activated protocols to counsel the woman and prevent her from making the payment. In coordination with the C5 emergency center, a search operation located both adults safe and unharmed, along with the vehicle they had used for their work.
The victims received medical attention and were escorted back to their home by officers.
Authorities urged the public not to answer calls from unknown numbers and, if threatened, to hang up immediately and report the incident to emergency lines 911 or 089.
