Gasoline Prices Hit Record Highs in Cancún and Isla Mujeres, Exceeding National Average

Cancún, Quintana Roo — Gasoline prices in Cancún and Isla Mujeres have surged to record levels, significantly exceeding national averages despite official reports of stability, according to a survey of local service stations.

While specialized portals indicate stable fuel prices in Quintana Roo, a visit to major stations in Cancún reveals that costs remain well above the national mean, directly impacting drivers’ budgets. Nationally, the average price for regular gasoline (Magna) stands at 23.75 pesos per liter, with premium fuel around 28.31 pesos. In the Mexican Caribbean, however, Magna reaches 24.74 pesos and diesel spikes to 28.96 pesos, positioning the state as one of the most expensive in the southeast.

Price Gap at Cancún Stations

At strategic points in the city, the difference is notable. At the Pemex station on Itzales Avenue and Las Torres, premium fuel is priced at 28.78 pesos. Meanwhile, at the FullGas station on López Portillo and Nichupté, Magna nears 25 pesos per liter (24.98), forcing drivers to switch fuels for economic reasons.

“I’m already thinking about using Magna because it’s not affordable; on paper the prices seem stable, but on the street gasoline keeps rising,” said Lázaro May, a local driver.

Isla Mujeres and Treasury Adjustments

The situation worsens in Isla Mujeres, where diesel has sold for up to 31 pesos per liter in areas like Rueda Medina Avenue. According to the Treasury and Public Credit Secretariat (SHCP), these daily adjustments respond to dollar fluctuations, international oil prices, and the elimination of subsidies—factors that maintain pressure on the final cost to consumers in the state.
