Mexico’s World Cup Security Push by Foreign Minister

Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente meeting with officials about World Cup security preparations

Mexico City — Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente has called on Mexican ambassadors and consuls deployed worldwide to inform that the country has the capacity to receive millions of fans for the FIFA World Cup and guarantee their security.

Accompanied by Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada and the federal government coordinator for the sporting event, Gabriela Cuevas, the Foreign Minister said it is important to project the values and principles that the country possesses.

“De la Fuente asked the ambassadors and consuls to deploy their capabilities to project Mexico as a great country with the organizational capacity to receive millions of fans from around the world and guarantee them a safe stay,” stated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Grupo REFORMA recently reported that Mexican agents are being trained by elements of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in high-impact threat scenarios due to shared concerns about terrorism risks, violent protests, and complex attacks, including hostile drones, in the context of the 2026 World Cup.

Furthermore, the preparation translates into drills and tactical exercises in strategic infrastructure and is expected to be applied in key destinations such as Guadalajara, Monterrey, and Mexico City, host cities of the world championship.
