Tulum, Quintana Roo — A late-night fire engulfed a restaurant on Tulum Avenue, prompting a large-scale emergency response and leaving the establishment severely damaged. The blaze, which broke out in the early hours of the morning, was reported by a pedestrian who alerted authorities at approximately 2:00 a.m.
Rapid Response Prevents Further Damage
Firefighters arrived swiftly to the scene, where they encountered an active fire inside the restaurant, identified as "M," located on Tulum Avenue between Satélite and Centauro streets. The flames posed an imminent risk of spreading to neighboring businesses, but crews managed to contain the fire before it could cause additional destruction.
Despite the intensity of the blaze, no injuries were reported, as the restaurant was unoccupied at the time of the incident. The structure, furniture, and kitchen equipment sustained significant damage.
Investigation Underway
Municipal Police cordoned off the area to facilitate firefighting efforts and ensure public safety. Once the flames were extinguished, Civil Protection personnel launched an investigation into the cause of the fire. Preliminary hypotheses suggest an electrical short circuit may be to blame, though authorities have not ruled out other possibilities.
Authorities issued an urgent reminder to business owners to inspect their electrical installations, particularly during the current season of heightened fire risks due to high temperatures.
The incident remains under investigation as officials work to determine the exact cause of the fire.
