Akumal — Residents of this community in the municipality of Tulum have denounced deficiencies in public services, primarily garbage collection, and have asked the City Council to address a problem affecting the cleanliness of their streets.

The residents’ complaint centers on the need for a regular and efficient service that allows household waste to be removed and prevents it from accumulating in the areas where families leave it for collection.

According to the complaint, the service is insufficient to meet the population’s needs. Residents pointed out that putting out their trash does not solve the problem when there is no guarantee it will be collected, so they requested a review of the routes and clear communication of collection days and times. They believe that reliable information would allow them to organize waste disposal and reduce the time it remains on the street.

The discontent expresses a basic demand: that municipal services function consistently. For the residents, the cleanliness of Akumal requires daily attention and a response reflected in the regular collection of garbage trucks. Their request is that the authorities listen to their complaints and explain how they will address the identified problems, as well as establish an accessible means to report areas where garbage remains uncollected.

Residents also requested a review of the operational capacity allocated to the community to determine if the vehicles, personnel, and route frequency are sufficient to meet demand. The accumulation of waste can lead to unpleasant odors and attract animals that scatter the garbage, so they emphasized the importance of preventing these issues through timely collection. They pointed out that garbage removal must be accompanied by organization and follow-up to prevent the problem from recurring.

Although the complaint encompasses the quality of public services, garbage collection is the main source of dissatisfaction expressed by residents. Therefore, they called on the Tulum City Council to prioritize this need and offer a concrete response to Akumal. With the information available for this report, there is no official statement regarding the complaint, nor are there details of the measures that could be implemented to correct the deficiencies reported by the citizens.
