Cancún Raid Uncovers Arsenal of Rifles, Handguns and 1,000 Rounds at Suspected Safe House

Security personnel stand outside a home in Cancún's Región 225 after a raid in which investigators seized rifles, handguns and ammunition

Cancún, Quintana Roo — Investigators seized five long guns, handguns and more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition during a court-ordered raid on a suspected safe house in the Región 225 area of Cancún, authorities reported.

The operation took place Thursday night on manzana 9, along Calle 100 between Calles 105 and 105-A, where agents from the Policía de Investigación entered the property backed by officers from agencies at the municipal, state and federal levels. The search was carried out under a judicial warrant.

Inside, officers found an arsenal that included AR-15-style rifles and handguns, along with the ammunition. They also located bags of dried plant material with characteristics similar to marijuana, a crystalline substance, and numerous bags containing cartridges of various calibers for both handguns and long guns.

Unofficial accounts indicated the total number of rounds could exceed 1,000.

Forensic specialists processed the scene and secured the evidence for inclusion in the corresponding investigation file. Once the search concluded, the property was seized and placed under the guard of authorities.

No arrests have been reported so far, and officials have not disclosed where the weapons or the seized substances came from. The State Prosecutor’s Office is expected to issue an official statement on the operation in the coming hours.
