Police officers and forensic investigators at a crime scene on a farm in Francisco May, Isla Mujeres

Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — A 75-year-old man was found dead with gunshot wounds on his property in the town of Francisco May, part of Isla Mujeres municipality, authorities reported Sunday.

Police and ministerial officials in Lázaro Cárdenas said the victim’s son reported the discovery at 6:40 p.m. Friday at a security booth, requesting help.

According to the son’s statement, the elderly man had traveled to his farm, about 20 kilometers off the Cancún-Leona Vicario highway, on an ATV on Friday to deliver supplies to an employee guarding the site. When he lost contact with his father and he did not return home, the son went to look for him.

Inside a palapa on the property, the son found his father motionless with what appeared to be at least two gunshot wounds.

Public security officers arrived at the scene, confirmed the death, and cordoned off the area. Agents from the Homicide Unit and forensic experts from the State Prosecutor’s Office processed the scene, collected evidence, and transported the body to the forensic medical service for an autopsy.

Authorities are keeping the investigation lines confidential and are also searching for the employee who was supposed to be guarding the farm, whose whereabouts remain unknown.
