Developers Seek Permits for New Beach Club in Mahahual

Proposed site for Blue Lighthouse Beach Club in Mahahual, Quintana Roo

Mahahual, Quintana Roo — Local entrepreneurs are seeking environmental approval for a new beach club project called “Blue Lighthouse Beach Club” that would be built next to the Mahahual Lighthouse, facing Mexican Navy facilities.

The project’s Environmental Impact Statement (MIA) appeared in the official gazette of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) and is now under review by the General Directorate of Environmental Impact and Risk (Dgira). The document specifies the club would be located in the Federal Maritime-Terrestrial Zone adjacent to property on Malecón Avenue at kilometer 0+000 of the Cafetal-Mahahual highway in Mahahual, Othón P. Blanco municipality.

Developers describe the project as offering food and beverage services along with rest areas and scenic viewing spots. Plans include 50 lounge chairs, 10 umbrella-style palapas, and two rectangular palapas—one for storing furniture and another for beverage service.

The Blue Lighthouse Beach Club would consist primarily of removable structures occupying a total area of 1,666.98 square meters within the federal zone.

The federal tourism ministry’s “México Desconocido” website promotes visiting beach clubs in Mahahual as one of the best ways to enjoy the area’s main attraction. The site notes existing clubs like Maya Chan Beach, Yaya Beach, and Pez Quadro offer lounge chairs, beds, shaded hammocks, food, drinks, and even massages, with pricing ranging from all-inclusive packages around 1,200 pesos to minimum consumption requirements of about 300 pesos.

According to the Othón P. Blanco Tourism Department, Mahahual has developed into an ideal destination for peaceful, worry-free vacations that showcase Mexico’s natural wealth. The area has become known for its preserved environment and bohemian atmosphere, with visitors enjoying bicycle rides along the malecón or walks on white sand beaches at sunset.

The town’s accommodation options include hotels and eco-friendly cabins that prioritize sustainability while providing quality services.
