Cancun, Quintana Roo — A Cuban man was arrested early Tuesday for allegedly stabbing his ex-partner to death in the kitchen of a bar in Cancun, authorities said.

The attack occurred in the early hours at the bar “La Hija de Cuauhtémoc” on Avenida Las Torres, just meters from another bar where a triple murder took place. The suspect, identified as José Antonio “N,” worked at the establishment and allegedly used a sharp weapon to attack the victim, who also worked there.

Witnesses said coworkers saw the assault but fled to avoid being attacked. Paramedics confirmed the woman had no vital signs when they arrived. The incident prompted a large police response and shocked employees and neighbors.

Police later located the suspect near the Región 510 neighborhood on Avenida Cancún. Officers noted visible bloodstains on his clothing, and he resisted arrest, leading to additional charges of resistance and disobedience.

The State Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation under the feminicide protocol. It remains unclear whether the victim had previously filed complaints of violence. The suspect has been handed over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office pending a legal determination of his status.
